San Diego running back Danny Woodhead, who got the start against Buffalo in place of injured feature back Ryan Mathews, sustained a serious ankle injury. ESPN.com reports that Woodhead has a severe high ankle sprain with a fractured fibula.

Fox Sports reports that Woodhead could get a second opinion, but may require surgery on his right leg.
